What in the 7%?! This had me shedding tears at 7%. This is a second chance romance that will take your breath away. This is the second book in the Tess Thompson’s Cliff Side Bay Series. This book can be read as a stand-alone but believe me once you meet the characters you are going to want to go back and read book one.Jackson had believed that Maggie had died in a car accident on her way to live out her dream in New York City. Riddled with regret and guilt over how he left things with her he tries his best to go on with his life. Maggie is in New York thinking that everyone she loved had turned her back on her and sided with Jackson. It isn’t until she is summoned home by her dying father that she and the rest of the town discovers that neither was true.This gave them the second chance. It’s a story about learning how to forgive what had happened in the past and moving forward together. Well written with characters you can’t help but fall in love with. I really enjoy Tess Thompson's books, and this one if by far and away my new favorite. Chapter 1 opens with Maggie turning thirty and learning she's been dead for 12 years. And things only get crazier from there. I'd rate this box 5 Kleenexes instead of 5 stars. (Pro tip: you will need them.)Maggie is very much a Tess Thompson heroine, smart, sassy, and imperfect. The book opens with Maggie at a crossroads in her life which is deeply ironic since she's supposedly dead - except nobody told her.This book is complex, and very real. The scene that hit home for me was in a nursing home with a dementia patient. As the daughter of a dementia patient I suddenly wondered if she'd had a camera nearby during my conversations with dad. She gets it right, with those incredibly well thought out details.This is a story of true love that survives the test of time. It's woven in a complex story of long-term friends with a theme of enduring love, friendship, and family. But it's not an ideal world, and some of the ordeals the characters have survived will resonate for some readers.
